Leone Alato—Terrae
2025
Le tenute del Leone Alato
The Terrae book-object is designed to convey the new vision of Le Tenute Leone Alato, a prestigious Italian wine group (a spin-off of Genagricola) that brings together four exceptional wineries in Veneto, Friuli, Piedmont, and Tuscany.
The design solutions chosen aim to create a unique object.
The final product is an innovative creation, the result of an unconventional approach where the value of tradition and the past engage in dialogue and open up to innovation and technology.

The volume becomes a work of art through a careful study of its format, typographic structure, and the organization of the page space where text and image coexist.
The volume’s form evokes the ancient tradition of the herbarium, used by experts and lovers of the earth’s bounty to preserve, care for, and organize them. In the same way, the estates act as experts and lovers of what they safeguard.

At the heart of the collection are five notebooks, printed on fine papers selected to create a tactile and visual connection with each estate (the cover color was chosen based on the soil color of each estate) and with the spirit of Leone Alato.
The notebooks contain the authorial and artistic images captured by French photographer Jacques Pion using a view camera over the course of the four seasons, along with the poetic prose writings of Lorenzo Carpané, united in a dialogue where text and images create a polyphony.
The chosen typography incorporates a visual connection to the shape of the vine’s tendril in the design of the letter “r.”
The binding is handcrafted with exposed thread.

The first notebook is dedicated to Leone Alato’s vision and his gaze projected into the future, with a narrative that explores the themes of the vine, the earth, water, wood, concrete, stainless steel, and gestures.
Each estate is then dedicated a single notebook that recounts the unique experience of the place and the people who bring it to life.
The volume is complemented by two additional elements that enhance it: an octavo-sized fold-out with an introduction by President Gianfranco Fancel and a fine-art print of a photographic work.
Copies of the volume are produced in a limited and numbered edition.
